The IQAC, New Horizon College, Kasturinagar, organised an FDP on “Quality Driven Teaching: Innovative Pedagogy and Structured Classroom Delivery”. A total of 36 faculty members attended the FDP. The FDP commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Pratibha, followed by the introduction of the resource persons, Dr. Babitha Jain, Dr. AB Guru Lakshmi, and Dr. Santhosh Kumar. The speakers emphasised the need to move beyond traditional textbook- and lecture-based methods towards innovative, student-centred, and interactive pedagogy. The speakers discussed activity-based teaching to develop critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills. They also introduced micro-lesson planning by dividing a 45-minute class into recap, delivery, interaction, activity, and assessment segments, along with the use of two checkpoints during a class to monitor students’ understanding. The session introduced HTML live pages as an engaging alternative to PowerPoint, integrating text, images, videos, links, and interactive elements. The resource persons demonstrated how ChatGPT can be used to quickly create such learning resources. This was illustrated through practical demonstrations of a Financial Accounting unit by Dr. Santhosh Kumar, a B.Com unit by Dr. AB Guru Lakshmi, and a Data Structures unit by Dr. Babitha Jain, demonstrating how interactive activities can make even technical subjects more engaging. The programme concluded with an interactive faculty quiz, followed by the presentation of tokens of appreciation. The Principal addressed the gathering, appreciated the resource persons, and highlighted the FDP’s role in encouraging faculty members to adopt innovative, technology-enabled, and learner-centred teaching practices. |
