Description of the Event:

The Department of Computer Applications, New Horizon College, Kasturinagar, organised a Two-Day Workshop on Offensive Security vs Defensive Security: Industry Perspective and Applied Data Analytics – From Data to Decisions for V Sem BCA Students.  The total number of students who attended the workshop was 62.

The Main Objectives

Day 1: Offensive Security vs Defensive Security: Industry Perspective

·       To create awareness on cyber threats and cyber-security careers.

·       To teach Offensive Security – how attacks happen (Footprinting, Scanning, Web Pentesting).

·       To teach Defensive Security – how to find and fix vulnerabilities.

·       To give hands-on experience on tools like Nmap, Burp Suite, Maltego, Shodan.

Day 2 : Applied Data Analytics – From Data to Decisions

·       To make students aware of Data Analyst career roles and opportunities.

·       To provide hands-on training on core tools – Excel, SQL, Power BI, Python, and Statistics.

·       To make students work on one live end-to-end project.

·       To guide students on resume building, portfolio, and interviews.

Outcomes:

Students gained practical knowledge of how hacking and defense works, learned to use ethical hacking tools like Nmap, Burp Suite and Maltego for vulnerability scanning, and gained the ability to create a professional security report.

Students also gained hands-on skills in Excel, SQL, Power BI, and Python, learned how to work on a live end-to-end data project, gathered knowledge of resume building and interview preparation to become job-ready.
