The Women Empowerment Cell of New Horizon College, in association with IIC, celebrated International Women’s Day on 11 March 2026 in the seminar hall at 11.00 a.m. Women from teaching, non-teaching, administration, housekeeping, and students attended the programme.

The event aimed to honour three women from diverse fields such as medicine, defence, and politics. Captain Neelam Singh, a retired former Indian Army officer and HR consultant, Dr. Jambukala A Y, Consultant Surgeon at Trust-in Hospital, and Shantha Krishnamurthy, Corporator of NRI Layout, were invited as guests.

Dr. Jambukala shared cases of a few of her women patients who, even in dire health conditions, showed deep concern for their families. She spoke about how the role and progress of women create a positive ripple effect in uplifting society.

Captain Neelam, on the other hand, shared compelling stories of war and terrorist encounters. She spoke about the valour of the Indian Army and defence forces, without whom we would not enjoy a safe and carefree life in cities. The audience saluted their sacrifices and hardships, especially as she highlighted the challenges faced by women in the forces.

Ms. Shantha Krishnamurthy spoke about her journey in politics and the challenges she encountered. The audience was inspired by the initiatives she has undertaken for women’s safety and empowerment. She has also led several philanthropic efforts for the education and welfare of girls in orphanages.

This was followed by the prize distribution, where the winners of the games organised for the occasion received their awards from the distinguished guests.
