The Entrepreneurship Club of New Horizon College, Kasturinagar, in collaboration with the Coir Board, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), successfully organized a comprehensive three-day Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) from February 10 to 12, 2026. Under the inspiring theme “Start with Your Startups,” the event aimed to equip students with the technical and managerial skills required to innovate within the sustainable coir sector.
A Visionary Inauguration
The programme commenced with an insightful inauguration ceremony. Shri Mohana Rao Koppole, Former Deputy Chief Vigilance Officer, Airports Authority of India, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, he urged students to look beyond traditional employment and leverage the extensive support systems provided by the MSME to build their own enterprises.
Dr. Baswaraj, Principal of New Horizon College, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset is crucial for developing the next generation of leaders and job creators.
Day 1: Building the Entrepreneurial Foundation
The first day focused on the “human” element of business, beginning with Dr. Mukul Manohar’s discussion on the synergy between motivation and MSME support. Ms. Aishwarya led an interactive workshop on soft skills and leadership, while Mr. Kiran Manohar shared a “boots-on-the-ground” perspective of his own entrepreneurial journey. The day concluded with Dr. Sambath Kumar teaching students how to identify internal strengths and manage calculated risks effectively.
Day 2: Strategy, Finance, and Coir Industry Insights
Day two transitioned into the mechanics of running a business, featuring Ms. Saritha Devunje’s deep dive into marketing strategies and financial management. Mr. Praveen Kumar M P detailed essential government schemes for startup funding, while Shri S. Venkatraman and Shri Vidhyadharan M.P. from the Coir Board highlighted product diversification and specialized services tailored for new ventures in the coir industry.
Day 3: From Theory to Practice – Industrial Visit
To bridge the gap between classroom learning and industrial reality, participants visited a Coir Processing & Manufacturing Unit in Kunigal, Tumkur. Students observed the entire production lifecycle—from raw husk to finished product—gaining firsthand exposure to large-scale machinery and industrial operations. This practical experience successfully turned abstract concepts into tangible business opportunities.
Valedictory and Institutional Recognition
The programme concluded with a formal valedictory ceremony and certificate distribution. In a notable gesture of appreciation, the Coir Board, Bangalore, honored New Horizon College, Principal Dr. Baswaraj, and the event coordinators with a memento for their excellence in promoting skill development and entrepreneurship.
