Report

A workshop on “Validation and Development of Concepts for Design and Patent Applications” was conducted to provide participants with knowledge on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and patent filing procedures.

The session covered the basics of Intellectual Property (IP), including patents and designs. Participants were introduced to the essential requirements for patentability—novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability—as per the Indian Patents Act, 1970. The importance of conducting a prior art search was explained, and participants were guided on using databases such as the Indian Patent Office and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

The workshop also focused on developing and documenting innovative concepts for patent or design applications, highlighting the difference between functional and aesthetic protection.

Overall, the workshop was informative and encouraged participants to validate and protect their innovative ideas effectively.
