Workshop on PHP and MySQL for Final Year BCA Students

The Department of Computer Science, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Cell (IIC), organized a hands-on Workshop on PHP and MySQL exclusively for the final year students of VI Semester BCA ‘A’ and ‘B’ Sections. The primary objective of the workshop was to equip students with practical knowledge and real-world skills in web development, focusing particularly on server-side programming and database management.

The event commenced with a warm welcome speech delivered by Ms. Deepali, a student of IV Semester BCA ‘B’ Section, who set the tone for the day by emphasizing the importance of web technologies in today’s digital world.

The session was conducted by the esteemed Mr. Prem Chand, a Technical Trainer from Alpha Academy, who served as the resource person for the workshop. Mr. Prem Chand began the session with an insightful introduction to PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) and MySQL, highlighting their significance in building dynamic and interactive web applications.

Throughout the workshop, the resource person engaged the students through interactive demonstrations and live coding sessions. Key topics covered included:

  • An overview of PHP scripting language and its role in web development

  • Introduction to MySQL as a robust and efficient relational database management system

  • How to set up a development environment (XAMPP/WAMP)

  • Creation of a basic login page using PHP

  • Establishing a connection to a MySQL database using PHP scripts

  • Performing database operations like INSERT, SELECT, UPDATE, and DELETE

  • Security measures for login systems, such as input validation and password hashing

  • Troubleshooting common errors and debugging techniques

Mr. Prem Chand also emphasized the importance of backend development skills in the modern IT industry and encouraged students to continue exploring full-stack development opportunities.

The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session where students actively participated, clarified their doubts, and expressed their interest in pursuing further projects using PHP and MySQL. The session was highly appreciated by the participants, who found it both informative and motivating.
