Highlights of the Session
The resource person started the session by introducing about her work space, her experience as a pay roll administrator, etc. The resource person started with the meaning of Group and Group Dynamics, where group can be defined as several individuals who come together to accomplish a particular task or goal. Group dynamics refers to the attitudinal and behavioral characteristics of a group. Group dynamics involves how groups form their structure and process, and how they function. Group dynamics are relevant in both formal and informal groups of all types. In an organizational setting, groups are a very common organizational entity, and the study of groups and group dynamics is an important area of study in organizational behavior.
Points Discussed
The resource person discussed about five different stages of group development i.e forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. During these stages group members must address several issues and the way in which these issues are resolved determines whether the group will succeed in accomplishing its tasks.
Many conflicts arise among the group members – agreement on group goals, frequency of interaction, personal attractiveness, inter-group competition, favorable evaluation, character,
different ways of thinking and so on. The more difficult it is to obtain group membership, the more cohesive the group will be.
The main topic was about how to solve the conflicts among the group members. It is basically a skill in management where the groups with conflicts can be resolved using approaches to improve group dynamics i.e. to know your team, tackle problems quickly with good feedback, define roles and responsibilities, break down barriers, focus on communication and pay attention.
