Visit to the Orphanage on International Yoga Day

Objective

  • To engage the youth to take part actively in celebrating the day by knowing the importance of the day.
  • To organize outreach activities towards developing good health and mind for children, orphans.

Introduction

International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21 June to raise awareness worldwide about the benefits of Yoga in daily life. People around the world embraced yoga to stay healthy and rejuvenated and to fight social isolation and depression   during the pandemic.

Yoga can be an important instrument in the collective quest of humanity for promoting sustainable lifestyle in harmony with planet Earth. In keeping with this spirit, the theme for this year’s Yoga Day celebrations is “Yoga for Humanity”.

Importance of International Yoga Day

  • Yoga Day highlights the importance of Yoga and the benefits it has on our mind and soul.
  • If practiced often, yoga can boost up your energy level, help you maintain a healthy weight and improve your body posture.
  • Participating in Yoga activities and meditation can help in enhancing your mental health.

Activities performed on the occasion of “International Yoga Day”

As a part of the International Day of Yoga observed in our college on 21st June 2022, we had students and faculty performing Yoga asanas. As an extension activity we visited Sumangali Seva Ashrama an organization that has completed 47 years of dedicated services to Down Trodden deserted women, Orphan children and economically weaker people in the society.

Our 4 students and 2 faculty Ms.Vaibhavi and Ms. Sneha took part in the Yoga Day celebration along with the 70 girl students of Sumangali Seva Ashrama by performing various Yoga asanas and pranayama. Warm up exercises were taken up and all the students performed sitting and standing asanas, importance of these were explained simultaneously. The celebration was concluded with the distribution of geometry box to the high school students and eatables to the children of the orphanage.

Conclusion

The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. Performing Yoga on a daily basis is said to nourish the mind of children and youth with positive qualities for their holistic development.
