MENTAL HEALTH AMID COVID-19

Objective:

To help students realise the importance of taking care of the mental health during this pandemic situation.

The webinar began with a welcome address by Ms. Sonal Vyas, Faculty in-charge, Department of Commerce, welcoming The Chairman-Dr. Mohan Manghnani, The Executive Director-Ms. Keerti Manghnani, The Director- Mrs. Sunita Hangal & The Principal- Dr. Sainath in absentia. Ms. Sonal also welcomed Ms. Sunitha. S, Head of the Department of Commerce, t00he Justice&Hope Program Manager-Ms. Malathi Thangamani, the Speaker-Ms. Anisha Johnson and all the first-year BCOM students for the session.

The webinar was held on the online platform- Zoom meetings, link of which was sent to each Mail-Id registered for the webinar by Justice&Hope. This was done for security purpose so that no one from outside the college can join the session. 38 students out of the registered attended the session.

The speaker for the session was Ms. Anisha Johnson who works with Justice and Hope as a Counseling and Training Coordinator. She did her MSW from Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, specializing in Family and Child Welfare. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, English Literature and Political Science from The Bhopal School of Social Sciences. Anisha’s passion is to work with children and women who are the most vulnerable in our society and help them reach their full potential. Her aim is to work towards creating communities where our children are safe, and our women are able to lead dignified lives.

Ms. Anisha started the session with the meaning and importance of Mental Health. Then she discussed on some risk factors affecting mental health during the Covid situation. The consequences of an ill Mental Health were explained to the students. The Do’s & Don’ts that needs to be kept in mind to take care of their mental health were discussed. Also Ms. Anisha elaborated the ways to approach the academics during the Covid situation because of the online classes.

Seek Help-Reach out to Mental Health Professionals.

After the session a test was done to ensure the deep sinking of the topic and better understanding of the students. This ended with a Q&A session with Ms. Malathi clarifying the queries and doubts regarding the topic. The answers to the questions were also discussed by Ms. Anisha after the poll conducted at the end of the meeting.  Ms. Sonal delivered the vote of thanks. Feedback was taken at the end of the session.

 

Outcome:

An awareness was created among the students about the sensitivity on Mental Health. They were given the actual meaning of “Mental Health” & understanding that it is right to approach a professional for counselling.
